Hyaluronic acid benefits

The Potential hyaluronic acid benefits

The major potential hyluronic acid benefits are its supports on osteoarthritis, skin conditions such as actinic keratose and winkles.

1. Hyluronic Acid Benefits - Osteoarthritis
Hyaluronan preparations have shown to decrease pain and improve the mobility of patients suffered from knee osteoarthritis. The improvement is possibly related to alternations in the synovial fluid viscoelasticity, cartilage metabolism, and inflammation. Injection of hyaluronic acid to patients suffered from osteoarthritis showed a pronounced reduction in pain and improved function, without complications

2. Hyaluronic Acid Benefits - Brain Injury
Hydrogel made of hyaluronic acid-poly-D lysine (a gel swelling in water) was shown to be compatible to rat brain tissue. This hydrogel has viscoelastric properties and a open porous structure, which is similar to the neural tissue. Thus, researchers consider to apply this hyaluronic acid hydrogel on brain injury. Clinical studies are needed to support this health benefit claim.

3. Hyaluronic Acid Benefits - Skin Conditions
Regulatory approval in the USA, Canada and Europe was granted recently for 3% diclofenac in 2.5% HA gel, Solaraze(R), for the topical treatment of actinic keratoses, which is the third most common skin complaint in the USA.

4. Hyaluronic Acid Benefits - Wrinkles and Folds
Restylane, approved on March 25, 2005, is a transparent hyaluronic acid gel. It can be injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds). This hyaluronic acid gel works by temporarily adding volume to facial tissue to restore a smoother appearance to the face. The effect of this hyaluronic acid gel can last for about 6 months.

5. Hyaluronic Acid Benefits - Bone Defects
1% hyaluronic acid gel associated with a collagen scaffold was found to benefit new bone formation in critical-size defects in a rat study. Probably because of this finding, researchers thought hyaluronic acid gel may be beneficial on brain injury.

6. Hyaluronic Acid Benefits - Vesicoureteral Reflux
Endoscopic Hyaluronic Acid/Dextranomer Gel Implantation was found to be effective as first-line treatment of vesicoureteral reflux in children. Serious complications after endoscopic treatment were not noted.

7. Hyaluronic Acid Benefits - Empty Nose Syndrome
Three patients suffering from empty nose syndrome and atrophic rhinitis underwent trial treatment consisting of submucosal injections of Hyaluronic Acid preparations into the inferior nasal concha and under the mucous membrane of the septum. As a result of treatment, the patients' symptoms improved for several months and no complications were recorded.
